Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way……
The Holiday season is here; the cinnamon spice perfume the crisp December air, Christmas trees are adorning city streets and the traffic is at gridlock. Fifth Avenue glitters with the Holiday lights and magnificent store displays and is jammed with revelers, tourists and shoppers running to get presents for their loved ones on time. Plan the menu and get your house ready, you know that Christmas is almost here!
Even with all the hustle and bustle, don’t we all still love this time of year? Hosting a party during this busy holiday season requires a lot of work. You worry about the food, décor, guests and there is just seemingly never enough time to spend an hour on your makeup. I invited my friend, professional makeup artist Yumi Kaizuk a, to give my guests an expert advice on tips and how-tos for a flawless, gorgeous look without sacrificing the time.
My friends graciously agreed to be the models for this makeup session. Each one of them has unique, beautiful features, vibrant personalities and different styles. Yumi, the make up artist, is very creative and did a fantastic job in finding an expressive look to complement each one of them. We all love entertaining at home and had a great time having lunch and sharing makeup tips.

Whether she is working the runways of New York City or shooting editorials for big names like Cosmo, Yumi Kaizuka, is a professional makeup artist with years of experience and expertise. I met Yumi years ago on the set of a modeling gig in the city; we almost instantly bonded and became good friends over time.
Table décor was light pink with hints of fuchsia, burgundy, gold and dark aubergine. Feminine, warm, inviting…….

This easy-to-assemble Asparagus and Red Pepper Flan was our lunch favorite. To save on time, I used store-bought pie dough and jarred roasted red peppers. Crunchy asparagus spears and sweet roasted peppers provide a delicious colorful contrast to the flaky pastry filled with the egg mixture. Bake the flan to the golden perfection and garnish it with few dill sprigs on top. I served it barely warm with a side of greens dressed with simple tangy lemon vinaigrette. A glass of chilled medium-body white wine like Sauvignon Blanc will complete this meal!
My friend Narayana is a working young woman who just loves to entertain after work in her Upper East Side apartment. She always wears beautiful day makeup to work which only highlights her natural Brazilian beauty. For her, Yumi showed some tips and tricks on how to transition from office-to-after-hours glamour.
When I first thought about hosting a lunch for my girlfriends, I intuitively wanted to create a light menu. This organic Oven-Baked Salmon with Fennel & Orange Salad was a tender, moist perfection accompanied by refreshing citrusy salad.
Natalia likes natural beauty; she hardly uses any makeup on daily basis, but when she hosts at home, she is always a perfection. Her look was a day time occasion, with just enough oomph to wow her guests next time when she and her husband are hosting their famously delicious Crêpes Brunch together! Pink peppercorns have a milder taste and work wonderfully on top the salmon fillet.
My makeup was all about Red Lip. I couldn’t agree more with what the author Roberta Gately once famously said: “Lipstick is really magical. It holds more than a waxy bit of color – it holds the promise of a brilliant smile, a brilliant day, both literally and figuratively.” And to me, that’s what it was!
